Appetizers or also known as hors d'oeuvres, antipasti, amuse-gueule, starters are a small dish taken before a meal or as an accompaniment of a main course. It can range from very simple, such as a plate of raw vegetables (crudité) to a very complex recipe that requires time and effort. It all depends on the event you are hosting.
There are two categories of appetizers: cold appetizers and hot appetizers. Just like their name entitles, one is served cold and the second is served warm. Many popular dishes are under the category of appetizers such as chicken wings, mozzarella sticks, cheese bread sticks, piadina rossa, canapés, etc. Creativity can be fully unleashed when preparing appetizers as you can serve them as individual servings in small ramequins or in shots glasses like they do in weddings and openings, and you can serve them in a large dish for a serving of 4 or more.
Appetizers can range from super fatty to very healthy, it depends on the quantity of greens used in the recipe, the quality of protein and the type of fat.
